'A Bicycle' by Rohini Chowdhury

by Rohini Chowdhury

A bicycle for Vipasha,
Two wheels all her own,
To ride on, fly with
Down the street -
Bell ringing, hair flying
Watch out everyone!

Vipasha on a bicycle
"Help, Mamma," she calls.
"This thing doesn't balance!
Oh how will I ride at all?"

Mamma laughs and says
"Climb on - you’ll balance by and by."
Vidi looks on with a worried frown
As Vipasha wobbles past her
With Mamma hanging on!

It's Papa's turn to help her balance,
Vipasha does much better.
"Oh," says Papa, "I am tired,
And it is so hot!"
Vipasha says "Just once more please,
One last try today?"

Vipasha wobbles by again,
With Papa holding tight
Till suddenly he lets go
And "Mamma! She can do it!"
Yells Vidisha as Vipasha whizzes by!!!

Vipasha on a bicycle
Two wheels all her own,
To ride with, fly with,
Where she wills,
Bell ringing, hair flying,
Watch out everyone!
