Today, special foods are cooked on this day. The celebration begins with a family get together at which crescent-shaped rice cakes called Songpyon are served. These are stuffed with beans, sesame seeds, chestnuts or dates, and steamed upon pine needles. Other special foods made from freshly harvested grain and fruit are also prepared and served.
The family then pays its respects to its ancestors, by visiting their tombs, cleaning and clearing the area around the tombs, and offering them food, drink and crops in ritual worship. Men, women and children dress in traditional Korean clothes. Traditional dances are performed and many traditional games are played - though these vary from region to region.
